2.During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, Tian'anmen Square had a "T" shape. It was surrounded by a red wll. The Imperial Way uesed to run from south to north through the center of square. The "thounsand-step corridor" used to be along each side of the Imperial Way. The Gate of Great Ming stood at the southern end of the aquare in the Ming Dynasty. It was changed into the Gate of Great Qing in the Qing Dynasty. The offices, licated on the west, were for the military officers and offices fro the cibil officials were on the easr.

The god hair pagoda was made by Qianlong in 1777 for commemorating his mother. It was used to contain the fallen hair of his mother. The tower is one miter high and made of 107.5 kilograms gold.

There were two important historical events happened in the hall of Mental Cultivation, first one was "handled state affairs behind the screen", the other was "the declaration of the abdication of the emperor".
